Cyber Costume Party!

A couple of years ago I did a cyber costume contest here on the blog, where everyone had to tell me what costume they would wear to be entered to win a book.  This year I’m going to steal my own idea but make a few changes.  This year, we’re doing a LITERARY COSTUME PARTY!

The prize today is a $20 Amazon gift ceritficate.  To be entered to win, you just have to post here and tell me:

* What literary character you’re dressed up as (it’s pretend, people…you don’t have to lift a finger…just have to use your imagination!)  It can be a contemporary character, someone from the classics, a character from any genre.  Doesn’t have to be human.  Post the character’s name and the book and author he/she is from.

* A brief description of what you’re wearing…make sure it’s in character!

* Why did you choose this character?

* Optional:  Bring a treat that your character might serve.

NOTE:  Only one person can be each character, so if you get here early, you have an advantage and lots more to choose from.  If you see your favorite character already listed, please choose a different one.  (With so many good books out there, there are bajillions to choose from.)

You have until Sunday at 6pm to post and be entered.  Winner will be announced Sunday night sometime.

I’ll go first.  I’m dressing up as Tayla Mancuso, from Larissa Ione’s Pleasure Unbound.  I’m wearing a sexy little tank top (and looking really hot in it) and leather pants that of course also look great, because Tayla has an awesome body.  I chose her because, well, hello…Eidolon is hot…and (trying not to give away spoilers for those who haven’t read it yet) I’d have an excuse for being bad. *g*  For treats, I’m bringing red velvet cupcakes with frosting demons on top.

Who’s next?

  1. Blanche Says:

Hi Amy!! How fun! This was a little hard, there are so many characters I would love to dress up as but I’m picking Jolie Russell from Redneck Cinderella by LuAnn McLane! My favorite thing of hers is the red cowgirl boots! I would probably be wearing a little short skirt and nice top! I picked her because she is full of life and fun loving and she does what makes her happy! As for bringing a treat, I think I would bring Million Dollar Toffee!!

  2. Melissa Says:

:devilnana: Oooh, how fun is THIS??? Awesome idea, Amy!! Hmmm….So, I gotta dress as the most kick ass heroine EVAH. I’m coming as Eve Dallas. I’m wearing battered jeans, boots, my long outrageously expensive leather duster, a black silk shirt Roarke forced on me…and oh, my phazer.
And treats? What the hell! Everyone gets a tube of diet pepsi and candy bar.

  3. Bev Stephans Says:

I’m coming as Melanie Monroe from Virgin River by Robyn Carr. I’m wearing those jeans that Jack Sinclair likes so much. My top has to be practical as I work in the clinic across the street from Jack’s Bar, but for the party I’ll don a sexy sweater and bring treats from Preacher’s kitchen at Jack’s Bar. I’ll probably still have a stethoscope around my neck.

  4. Lillie A Says:

Oh, the choices! I was thinking of Ciska from Demonica since I already have that costume but I’m afraid that Amy may get too into character and, well…slay me.*g* So, I’ll go with Nix from Cheyenne McCray’s Demons Not Included. Purple skin, blue hair, and pointy ears (love wearing pointy ears). I’m wearing leather pants and corset and carrying a sword. Shiny! Oh, and awesome boots, of course.

    For snacks..Pomegranate martinis!

  5. april s Says:

  This is tooo fun!! Ok if I had to pick any character from a book to be for Halloween, then I want to be Riley Jenson from Keri Arthur’s Riley Jenson series. As Riley, I would be dressed in a kick a$$ leather outfit( tight vest with sexy black leather mini skirt) with sexy knee high boots. I would have my black hair hair flowing, sexy shimmery earrings and be going to a party at my “lover” Quinn’s club. I have made my famous “Butter Nips” drinks for the guests-made with triple sec, butter nips, and bailey’s irish cream and whipped cream on top w/cherries. With an emphasis on the extra alchol

  6. CrystalGB Says:

I am going to come to the party as Elizabeth Phoenix from Lori Handeland’s Phoenix Chronicles. I will be wearing a red tank top, jeans with a wide belt, and boots. My jewelry will be bicep cuffs and a pendant. I will bring Jim Beam and Cokes  to the party.

  7. booklover1335 Says:

I think it would be funny to come as Stephanie Plum from Janet Evanovich’s Plum series.

Since I would be Stephanie it would mean that I was unprepared so my frinds Connie and Lula would have to dress me for the party. Which means I would be wearing my hair teased and hairsprayed out to high heaven. With a tight shirt in leopard print that showed off way to much of the “ladies” and a lime green leatherette mini skirt that is Lula’s (and fits both of us and means I should be visiting Cluck in a Bucket anytime soon, but we all know that Lula wears her clothes a little….snug shall we say) With some very vivid lipstick which seems to look good on Connie, but on me looks like a clown.

Who wouldn’t like to dress up as Stephanie for Halloween and be escorted by both Ranger and Joe Morelli….because I can get into all sorts of trouble on a day like Halloween.

The treat I would bring….have to be Tastykakes as they are the only treat I have on hand….and besides is there a better treat than Tastykakes?

  8. Wendy Says:

I’d dressed as Mercy Thompson! Eh, where’s my Adam?!

  9. anne Says:

I would dress up as Maisie Dobbs. From the series by Jacqueline Winspear. I enjoy reading these amazing books and this woman is talented and unique. I would weat my cloche hat as that is my trademark outfit with my navy suit and the wool overcoat. MY treat is scones and tea.

  10. Connie T Says:

I’m coming as Simi from Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark Hubter series. I like Simi cuz she’s hot, Acheron’s favoriter person (next to his wife) and she can eat people if she doesn’t like them. LOL! I’m wearing a tight red sweater with a black leather mini skirt. I’m bringing bar-b-que chicken wings with lots of bar-b-que sauce!

  11. Lisa J Says:

I would be Faith from Nalini Singh’s Psy/Changeling series. My hair would be red, I would have to get contacts that look like stars in the night sky, and I would wear a severe black suit with a white shirt.

The best accessory would be Vaughn!!

My treat for the party, as every good Psy knows, would be CHOCOLATE!

  12. Charlotte M Says:

I, of course, am Jane Eyre since that’s my favorite book. I’m wearing a full, solid, dark color dress with petticoat, bloomers & chemise, a bonnet & short cape. My hair is pulled back in a severe bun at the nape of my neck. I have some wonderful fruit pastries that Mrs. Fairfax has helped me prepare for the occasion. :cooldance:

  13. Patty Says:

Do to lack of imagination/memory, I will come as Nikki DiStefano from Shayla Blacks Strip Search. I will be wearing short, tight black dress and hot, high black Jimmy Choo’s. For snack Top Shelf Margaritas.

  14. Ina Says:

oh that sounds like lot of fun :D
I would wear a pair of tight low-rise jeans with a clingy sweater and a pair of kick-ass pointy-toed boots. I’m Morgan Kingsley and my story is told in “The Devil Inside” by Jenna Black.
Do you know her boyfriend Brian and the demon Adam? what fantastic reasons to choose her… *gg* and I will bring the guys with me ;)

    Let’s begin!

  15. Kimi Says:

I’m coming as Ivy from The Rachel Morgan series by Kim Harrison. I’ve always loved Ivy.

I’ve just had my hair cut so it is a little shorter in the back and hangs forward and longer on the sides. Tipped with blue of course. I’ve got on black tight leather pants and the perfect black leather heeled boots that make my legs look even longer. A tightly woven mesh shirt can be seen under a long black duster that fits me perfectly with a slit up the back that lets me walk with even quick strides.

  16. Maria Says:

I would come as Dorina Basarab from the Karen Chance
series. I would be wearing black leather pants with a wide leather belt, a half black leather tank top and would have to carry a gun. I would also have black leather boots. I would bring black licorice as the candy.

  17. Cathy M Says:

I would come as Mira from the Jocelyn Drake series. Leather pants, long sleeved black top, with knives strapped on my arms and legs. If I am really lucky, Danaus would drop by, just to protect me from anyone dressed up as a naturi.

  18. Deirdre Says:

I’d dress up at Salome from the book of John in the New Testament. I’d wear a provocative Middle Eastern and Roman inspired dancers outfit - lots of sheer material, skin. This would give me an excuse (as if I needed one) to dance all night. I would serve our guests red velvet cake bites on the silver platter that would eventually hold the head of John the Baptist. He stepfather offers her anything up to half to kingdom and she asks for a prophet’s head! She must have been young and stupid or extremely obedient to her evil mother.

  19. Jane Says:

I would dress up as Sherlock Holmes with the cloak, hat and pipe. We could all play a murder mystery game. I’ll bring a plate of scones to the party.

  20. Raonaid Luckwell Says:

The Simi from Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark Hunter series. Why? Well she is simply an awesome character, amusing too, and it’s the only time my hubs or anyone would let me dress goth.. Plus I have to a reason to dye my dark blonde hair black! * does a dance* I’ve been wanting to go black for a LONG time. I have a Frederick’s corset (actually two of them), red and black tights, kick ass black army boots, I’m hoping i can fit my behind in the red plaid skirt I have, and I have red hornahs.

    Treat? I’ll just bring BBQ

  21. Raonaid Luckwell Says:

And if I could not dress up as Simi, I would love to dress up as a Hawkbrother or a Herald from Mercedes Lackey’s Valdemar books. It’s been a want since I read them. Though to be a herald I would have to wear a white leather-ish pants and shirt with bands on the sleeves. I don’t do well in white.

  22. Bonnie H Says:

Oh! How Fun!! :witch: This is a tough one, but I would be Elizabeth Bennet from Pride and Prejudice because, well, DUH - Mr. Darcy :lick:
I’d wear a pretty, but practical, dress with an empire waist and some shoes suitable for walking in. Treats? Hmmm…how about I let someone else bring the treats, and I’ll provide amusing stories…

  23. AnitaS Says:

I am The Raven from Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Raven”

Well, first of all, since we’re using our imaginations, I’m skinny…I’m wearing black leggings and a l/s black t-shirt (didn’t want you to get a visual of this giant, lumpy body in leggings and a fitted t-shirt). I fashioned a pair of 6′ black wings out of old coat hangers, paper mache, and black spray paint. My face is painted black.

Why the Raven…well, I suppose because I’m feeling like an old bat, and it didn’t occur to me until I started typing this line that a raven is actually NOT a bat, and I clearly need to go take a nap. I do, however, like the poem, so I’m sticking with it.

I suppose I’ll bring a supply of gummy worms for the party.

  24. JoAnne K Says:

In swings Elizabeth Bathory, squeezed into a tight corset and dripping with pearls! She bares a collection of men, a delicious variety, for each of you to pick a party favor from. (well, she has no use for them!)And bonus, she’s also brought a tray of golden wrapped Ferraro Roche, her favorite indulgence, besides young virgin maids that is.

Whilst you make your selection, and munch on her offerings, she parks her royal behind on a nearby throne and watches all the Samhain fun — actually, she’s browsing amazon for a red hot book to read. :) :witch:

  25. catslady Says:

Heather Simmons from Kathleen Woodiwiss because this is the book that made me fall in love with romance. I’m dressed in one of the flowing gowns showing lots of cleavage (you did say this was fantasy lol)and of course she is dancing with her Captain Brandon Birmingham. If it’s been a while since anyone read this, here is the poem that starts the book that I just love:
For the flame will surely come,
And burn, and blacken, and lay bare the hill,
But with the first sweet breath of spring
The shy and lovely flower will again show
its face among the charred ruins
It yields to the searing heat,
    But with its persistent beauty
Far surpasses and finally tames the flames.

    sigh

  26. joder Says:

I will be Kitty Norville from Carrie Vaughn’s series. I’d have tight black leather pants, a black tank top, and black slightly-heeled leather boots. My blond hair would be in a ponytail and I’d walk around with a microphone.

For treats I’d bring orange-flavored Rice Krispy Treats.

  27. Amy M Says:

Ok, who would I be? I think that I would be Elphaba from Wicked by Gregory Maguire. I would wear a form fitting, cleavage showing black dress that would be floor length. With a slit up to about my thigh…on both sides. Black heeled boots, pointy hat, maybe even a broom to sit on. The sexy Elphaba!

    :witch:

Now, why would I choose Elphaba? You have to admit there is something sexy about the green skin…right? Not so much? Heck, I don’t know, she was the first one to come into my mind! I think of Halloween, and I think of witches.

Hmm, what would I bring. Maybe a pistachio cake. It would be green, like me!

    :broc:

  28. Ali Says:

Aw, Bonnie, I wanted to be Elizabeth Bennet, hehe

Well then, Can I be Holly Bardwell from Colters’ Woman… wearing jeans, a shirt, and have three hunks around me
I chose this characters for the guys that come with, lol
    I’ll be bringing brownies ;)

  29. Pamk Says:

I want to be Kat from Sherrilyn Kenyon book series. She’s a tall gorgeous amazonian woman with goddess powers and she flat out married to a gorgeous man who can stand up to her daddy lol. oh and she fights like all get out too.

  30. Colleen Says:

I would dress up as Jet from BLACK AND WHITE by Jackie Kessler & Caitlin Kittredge… I would be wearing a slick superhero’s outfit, have my cool dodads… who would not want to be a superhero… for my Halloween treat to share, I would bring Black & White cookies! Yummy!!!! :witch:

  31. diane Says:

i choose marissa from the book lover revealed from the black dagger brotherhood series by j r ward. i am madly in love with butch. and i love the growth that marissa showed in the novel. she really came into her own. i would be wearing slim fitting black pants that havers would hate with a blue sweater set that would match my blue eyes… and butch and i would bring scotch. lots and lots of scotch…

  32. Patty Says:

    Ali,
You smart chick. I said that my imagination sucked. I just picked the heroinne from my current read. You did awesome. You get to be comfortably dressed and have three hot guys too.

Although, I am with the lady that said since we are imagining, I have an amazingly hot bod to go into my short black dress.

  33. limecello Says:

Oooo I was so sure I’d have missed it - but no! Yay! I’d totally dress up as Scarlet O’Hara. In the Apple Green dress she’s wearing … I think to the barbecue?
Loved it- I’ve always wanted to wear one of those elaborate costumes.
Of course, from the classic Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell. Maybe some day…
Why am I dressed up as this character? As I said before - and also, I love the book, love the movie, love Scarlet- and even if I didn’t love all those things, it’s a fantastic dress.

A treat I’d bring? I feel like it’d have to be mint juleps :D

  34. Cherie J Says:

I would be Sascha Duncan from Nalini Singh’s Slave to Sensation. I would have pinned up hair and wear the typical psy outfit of a black suit. Would probably have to rig something with contacts to show eyes with stars. Sasca would be bringing chocolate since Tamsin introduced her to it and she became seriously hooked to it.

  35. Lisa Guertin Says:

I’ll be Sissy Mae Smith from Shelly Laurenston’s “The Mane Attraction”. I’m wearing short denim shorts, a bikini top and cowboy boots! And I’ll share my tequila, if you gals share your chocolate!

  36. Teonda Tollison Says:

:witch: FUN FUN FUN!!! I am Chassie from Rough Raw and Ready by Lorelei James. I am wearing tight boot cut jeans with my cowgirl boots and a t-shirt cut low and skimming the middriff. Soon I’ll be wearing nothing but a SMILE!!! For a treat I will bring cold beer and maybe some homemade cookies.

  37. Elizabeth Moore Says:

Hmmm lets see I would be Lt Eve Duncan from the JD Robb Series. I would defintely have on my long lamb leather coat with jeans and leather boots. long coat to hide my guns; jeans to better to kick ass with and boots to hide my knife. I chose this character because Eve kicks butt and takes number and Roarke of course. Treats I don’t cook and the butler had the night off.

  38. Cassie Says:

Call me Mac. I’m MacKayla Lane from Karen Marie Moning’s “Fever” series. Dressed in black leather top and leather pants. My black trenchcoat hides the Spear of Lusine. I’m bring my MacHalo, well it’s actually the Z-Lo. The lights circling me are stronger when I put in on my head. A hair accessory and Shade deterrent. Yeah, I tried asking Dani for the Sword of Light, but she said “I need that to protect myself.” Oh well. I still have a small jar of Unseelie if anyone needs it.

I’m bringing a four tier white fondant cake with rainbows on the sides. On the top tier’s going to be a reproduction of the Sinsar Dubh in book form not the Beast form. That terrifies me too much. It was going to be Barron’s birthday cake since Halloween’s his birthday too, but I want to eat this one and not like the pink one that hit the ceiling last year.

Just don’t tell V’Lane I’m here with Barrons. They hate each other.

Uh… please cover the mirrors, I hate them with a passion. Shut up Barrons, I will drive us home safely. Fast but safe. Did you have to dress up as vampire complete with black cape and fake teeth? You should have dressed as the Unseelie King.

I love how Mac changed from a young southern girl without a care in the world into a warrior when she searches for her sister’s killer. I can’t wait for the final book in this series. Dreamfever’s ending… omg… I’m more anxious with that one then the previous one.

Have a safe and fun Halloween!

  39. Lois Says:

Well, Miss Bennet’s taken. . . but Christine from Phantom of the Opera hasn’t! :) True, the book is different from any movie/stage version. . . but sure do imagine a certain recent movie version when rereading it; a guy with half a mask who does not sing with a Scottish accent. But I’d have to rewrite the ending. Raoul needs to find a way to die, really here. :)

    Lois

  40. Liza Says:

I really wanted to come as Eve Dallas from JD Robb’s In Death series, but since she is already taken I’ll come as Peabody. She is pretty kick-ass herself or Dallas wouldn’t continue to work with her. I’d be dressed in her police uniform(before she moved up in rank) so I could have some fun with McNabb after the party. Since I’m Peabody, I’d have to bring soy dogs fries…that’s all I can take afford with my funds. Maybe Dallas and Roarke can hook us up.

  41. JoAnne K Says:

Pam is amused, as she mingles, that no one has recognized her yet.Even with the designer red pumps and snarky smile she’s wearing.

Maybe, she thinks to herself, she should have worn her Fangtasia work dress instead. Then quickly changes her mind, thinking about the fun she could have with everyone in her disguise. Then again, Eric’s bound to blow her cover when he arrives dressed as Dracula.

She orders one of her maids she brought along as props (Fangtasia barmaids) to fetch her a Red Witch from the bar, while scanning the room, searching for someone to trick. Well…it is Halloween, after all.

Ah ha. Pam spots Sookie in the corner, dressed as Little Red Riding hood, and off she slinks to cause trouble.

  42. annalisa Says:

I’d dress up as Sookie Stackhouse from Charlaine Harris’ Dead series. I’d wear my cute barmaid outfit with my name on it and bring lots of drinks for everyone to party with! Maybe Eric and Bill will come along with me for a really fun time!

I picked Sookie because I love how she can read minds and also has some gorgeous boyfriends. :woot:

  43. JoAnne K Says:

    stepping out of character now!

Okay, so I, Pam from Southern Vampire Mysteries, dressed up as Elizabeth Bathory because I think Pam would totally be in for it — they both have a preference for the feminie and enjoy a sadistic character. I chose Pam because she’s so wicked, always snarky and funny. She’s my fav character in Charlaine Harris’ books.

    Back in character…

After winding up Sookie about where the big bad wolf is, Alcide stalks over. Thank god it’s not full-moon, she jests…only, it is!

  44. Tracy S Says:

I’d come as Paige from Robyn Carr’s SHELTER MOUNTAIN.

I’d be dressed in jeans and a t-shirt.

what I’d bring to eat? hmmmmm Something Preacher made! ;o)

  45. Tiffany Says:

Okay, you sparked an idea, Amy. You’re Tayla; I would go as Serena from Passion Unleashed (uh, she gets Wraith, yum). I’d wear short khaki shorts, a white tank, a loose top over it (think The Mummy, since Serena’s on all of those Egyptian expeditions), and of course her necklace.

I would totally want to bring Wraith as my snack. :)

  46. Ginger Says:

Oh no all my favorite characters are already taken… :fit:
Ok so I guess I’ll go as Amelia Landry. She’s from C. Miles, Highland Knight.
I’m dressed in black skinny jeans (yes I have the leggs for it) with a black t-shirt that shows a pair of fangs and says in blood dripping words: Bram Stoker Rocks! Pretty much the same outfit I wore all week, LOL.
I picked her because she’s the type of girl who knows who she is and not affraid to be that person. I think that’s really cool. :cooldance:
I will bring some Devilfood cake with dark chocolate icing. Can’t go wrong with that.

  47. Terri Says:

Regina Fallon from Maya Banks’ Be With Me. Not sure what I’d be wearing as my first choice would be a deputies uniform but I wouldn’t want to get in trouble for pretending to be a police officer. Still I’d be carrying my handcuffs. With 3 great guys, I’m sure I could find something great to bring.

    Terri

  48. Linda Henderson Says:

I would be Dr. Charlotte Mira from the J.D. Robb In Death series. I would wear a nice matching suit and I would bring some home made cookies to the party.

  49. Deidre Says:

Okay, so I’m Eve from Rachel Caine’s Morganville Vampires series. I’m decked out in my goth attire of course.
Eve’s just an interesting character and she’s super protective of Claire and she’s got Michael, who is a mystery all on his own. Of course, I mean I’ve got Michael. Yeah, that’s right.
I’m bringing some bloody ladyfingers for dessert.

    Deidre

  50. kh Says:

iw ould be samantha jellicoe from suzanne enoch books
she is a tough chick,a burglur and plays by her own rules. i wuold be wearing black cat outfit stealing artwork and getting my man in the end
    i wuld bring cookies

  51. Gaëla Says:

Thanks for sharing, showing maturity in your response.
